    Default Hex key opinions

    Guys,
Looking for opinions on a future hex key purchase. Does anyone have a preference of the individual "L" shaped long reach keys or folding set. Also are hex keys something work spending on quality or just from a discount manufacture. I have not really had a need to use hex keys very often in my military aviation career, not sure about the civilian workforce.
I currently own a nice set made by TaskForce that includes both standard and metric sizes that fill the need around the house and in my garage.
    Thanks,
    Randy

Have a couple different sets. They aren't that expensive and you won't need them often but it's better to be prepared than not.

Yea not much difference in those. I like the snap on or draftsman sets. Like 13 each with the ball end. And you use them quite a bit

The craftsman set (short socket 3/8 drive) from sears is what I use. The L wrench aren't really practical - no torque.

    I have several sets.
standard old L ones, no ball tip, and a nice little tool to increase torque (rocker shaft from continental engine) "cheater bar"
T handle sets in a rack
    3/8' drive sets
    foldable sets
and a bunch of sacrificial ones that get cut up to make tools.
yes you can have overkill....... but, can you ever have too much overkill?

Why don't they make a hex key with transformability? L shape and can divide to a straight piece to use with a speed brace?

    Well design one!

Seems like it would be a good idea!

Always buy the tools you need for the job. No need to buy something just in case. Every job you have will need different tools. Buy them when you need them. For example don't go crazy buying exotic sheet metal tools. You may be doing line work and not need them. Have the basics in case something comes up.

As a rule of thumb, if you have to borrow something 3 times, go buy one

Nice idea! But I think we should buy not just one! Because when we have it, we still need to borrow some other tool 3 times again and again )
