    Default Mandatory new guy thread

    Hi,

I was referred to this forum from a welcome packet at AIM Las Vegas. I'm here to gain as much knowledge and insight as I can about the field of aviation maintenance, as well as it's economical opportunity in southern Nevada, before I choose to enroll and become an A&P. Thanks.

Those instructors are idiots. Everyone here knows the Dean, who is likewise an idiot.

Not sure what other schools are here up in Reno but if there's a community college go there instead of AIM. As you know Constant is about to close so the market will be flooded with mechanics for a while.

As for the full spectrum of career out look, it's pretty good.

I'm not willing to move my family out of Las Vegas. If I can't have a good career as an A&P here then I shouldn't go to school for it. BTW, I sent you an email. I will be transitioning out of the military in 22 months, and then I'll have 26 months of training, so I have a while. What makes you say that about AIM? To my knowledge it is the most accredited place of study in the valley. I have a TON of questions. I just bought an ASA textbook by Dale Crane titled General AMT, fourth edition. Will this be smart to study with to get sort of a head start?

Not being willing to relocate does limit your possibilities, good luck, whatever your choice. AIM is probably many times more expensive than community colleges or vo-tec night schools. All A&P schools have to teach the same minimum required curriculum.

Thankfully the entire 26-month AMTH curriculum is covered by the GI Bill.
